Prosecutor Extends Hosam’s Illegal Detainment For The 8th Time
The 15-day detainment extension was the only chance for Hosam to know his wife is alive. The prosecutor stripped him of even that. Hosam and Ola have been moved to different days for their detainment extensions since September to further subject them to suffering and pain.
“These 100 days of solitary confinement are far more difficult than the two years of solitary confinement I was in befor. Ola, the love of my life, is suffering and I fear for her life. This is the worse torture they can subject me to. Its worse than physical torture,” expressed Hosam to his lawyers.
Today, Hosam was extended for another 15 days without due process. The family remains unaware of what the charges are against Hosam or Ola, or if in fact there is any real investigation at all.
On Monday the University of Texas newspaper, The Daily Texan, published an article by David Howell titled ‘Egypt must let imprisoned Longhorns go,’ and he calls on the Egyptian authorities to “let our Longhorns go.”
Ola and Hosam were both University of Texas graduates. Hosam himself grew up in Texas because his father was a graduate, professor, and a writer for the Daily Texan as well. The family has a historical loyalty to the University and Longhorns is used to reference attending students and alumni. Howell calls on students and the university to act and speak out because “[it is our] responsibility to demand their freedom.”
Solitary confinement isn’t punishment – it’s torture – and we calls on Egyptian authorities to bring an end to this arbitrary detainment and reunite Ola and Hosam with their loved ones. We call on the international community and human rights organizations to advocate for their freedom.
