Ola and Hosam Retrial postponed until July 3 2019 due to African Cup of Nations
One week ago Ola Al-Qaradawi and Hosam Khalaf were both scheduled for their pretrial detention extension hearing. Ola and Hosam were transferred from prison to the courthouse in the police academy for the hearing, which was initially scheduled for Saturday. After they were transferred however, the hearing was again postponed to June 18th.
Yesterday, on June 18th, for the third time, their hearing has been rescheduled. Their retrial detention extension hearing has been postponed to July 3 2019.
The shifting around in hearing schedules is likely to be due to increased security concerns with the start of the African Cup of Nations on June 21 2019 in Cairo.
Not only do Ola and Hosam have to suffer the consequences of these bureaucratic decisions, but they continue to be deprived of their most basic human rights such as access to proper food and water, access to a washroom, a bed to sleep on, and the right to a fair trial.
The #FreeOlaandHosam campaign continues to advocate for Ola and Hosam’s immediate release. We call on the prosecution’s office to serve justice and reunite Ola and Hosam with their children, grandchildren and all loved ones once again.
