Ola and Hosam were transported to the State Security prosecutor’s office today for their 6th renewal hearing. The family is again very disheartened to hear that the prosecutor, without any due process, renewed their solitary confinement detention for another 15 days.
Their lawyers expressed serious concern about Ola and Hosam’s medical and psychological conditions. Ola continues to limit herself to minimal intake of food and water to assist in coping with 24 hour confinement with the exception of an early morning 5 minute washroom break.
The State Security authorities have completely neglected Ola’s fragile state. The family is extremely distressed with Ola’s harsh prison conditions and call for the Egyptian authorities to show compassion.
“We call on Egyptian authorities to unconditionally release Ola and Hosam immediately. Until then, we urge prison authorities to give them a mattress, clean water and food, and access to sunlight. These are the most basic human rights every detainee should have. My parents are innocent and should be treated with dignity,” says Aayah Khalaf, Ola’s eldest daughter who resides in the United States.
