The Egyptian Court of Cassation removes the names of Ola al-Qaradawi and Hosam Khalaf from the National Terrorist List
On Tuesday February 12, 2019, the Egyptian Court of Cassation annulled the decision of the 16th Chamber of the Criminal Court of South Cairo to include Ola al-Qaradawi and Hossam Khalaf on the list of terrorist entities as part of the state security case 316/2017, a mass state security case that has lead to the pre-trial detention of almost 300 people, including both Ola and Hosam.
Ola al-Qaradawi and Hosam Khalaf have been detained for over 590 days. No evidence has ever been presented before the courts against either Ola or Hosam. In fact, Ola and Hosam have never been charged.
This decision is long overdue, and should result in their unconditional release and freedom, revoking any asset confiscation decisions and lifting any travel bans. The state security prosecutor should immediately bring an end to this fabricated case and the suffering of so many people as a result of it.
The family calls on the prosecution’s office to serve justice and reunite Ola and Hosam with their children, grandchildren and loved ones.
