EU Member of Parliament Barbara Matera poses a Question to the European Commission

EU Member of Parliament Barbara Matera, who is also the Vice Chair of the committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equity has addressed Ola’s case to the European Commission. MEP Barbara Matera went on to emphasize  the barbaric conditions Ola is being put in, “conditions in the prison are inhumane. She is in a windowless cell, with inedible food and only five minutes per day to go to the bathroom. She has even been denied her right to speak with her lawyer. She is put on trial every 45 days and each time she is placed back in prison.”

She then addressed the following questions to the European Commission and Higher Representative Federica Mogherini:

1. How can the VP/HR raise awareness and stand in solidarity with Ola?
2. In what ways can the VP/HR encourage the Egyptian government to drop the charges and set her free?

The EU Commission must now address this question as a part of legal procedure. The international community is speaking out on #FreeOlaandHosam and the case is garnering more international support worldwide. People and organizations around the world who believe in fundamental human rights are speaking out and taking action to support Ola and Hosam’s freedom.
