Campaign Condemns State Security Prosecution’s 2nd Detention Renewal

On Wednesday, July 26th 2017 the National State Security Prosecution issued a decision to renew the detainment of Ms. Ola Yusuf Al-Qaradawi and her husband Hosam Khalaf pending investigation case No. 316 / 2017. This is the third unlawful renewal they have subjected to unjustly.

We emphasize that these measures are completely unjust and there is no legal explanation for it. In fact, it is an outcome of fabricated paperwork, political motivations and tampering with people’s lives and fates.

The Free Ola and Hosam campaign emphasize the following:

1 – The arrest of Ms. Ola and her husband Mr. Hosam was related to the transfer of furniture from their home in which the authorities believed was owned by her father Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi whose assets have been frozen.

We stress that the investigations during the first two days after the arrest were related to this minor incident and they were never presented with any allegations related to the current accusations of belonging and financing an illegal group. Furthermore, we confirm that the chalet is owned by Ola’s late mother, Ms. Umm Mohammed, and therefore the initial accusations are baseless.

2- We hold the authorities responsible for the torture subjected to Ms. Ola and her husband, Engineer Hosam, both held in solitary confinement in very difficult circumstances. We affirm that they are both subjected to physical and psychological exhaustion and that the Egyptian authorities will be held responsible for any harm caused to them.

3- We demand to remove Ms. Ola and her husband Engineer Hosam from the list of individuals investigated in case 316.

4- The Free Ola and Hosam Campaign will continue to advocate until both are unconditionally released, including removing any restrictions of travel inside and outside of Egypt.

5- We are grateful for local and international solidarity with our ordeal, and we thank all of those who stand with us across the world world including public figures and human rights organizations.
