Ola Al-Qaradawi and Hosam Khalaf renewed for another 45 days
Ola Al-Qaradawi and Hosam Khalaf’s family and lawyers have remained in the dark for another 45 days without any information about their loved ones. Today both Ola and Hosam were transported to the police academy courthouse within the Torah prison complex.
Both Ola and Hosam were placed in the same court cage and allowed to talk. This was a very emotional experience for the both of them. However as per usual they were denied any direct communication with their lawyers. Ola expressed to the judge the inhumane conditions she is subjected to, but her concerns were dismissed. Ola has lost extensive weight and her lawyers are fearful about her ability to withstand further solitary confinement, malnutrition, proper ventilation and denial of sunlight.
The legal team petitioned the judge to release Ola and Hosam. They raised grievances about Ola’s health, unlawful conditions and the extended pretrial detention they both have been subjected to. They demanded an immediate end to their arbitrary detention without charge, evidence, or investigation.
As per the last 486 days the judge extended Ola and Hosamfor another 45 days without any explanation.
Egyptian authorities have been in violation of international law by refusing to provide Ola with her most basic human rights as well as her right to consular access. Ola and Hosam’s children continue to advocate for the support and intervention of the United Nations, the US Administration, the European Union, and EU member states.
