Yesterday Hosam Khalaf was transferred from Qanatir prison to the courthouse in the police academy within the Torah prison complex for his pretrial detention extension hearing. The judge refused any communication between Hosam and his lawyer and extended his detention for another 45 days without any due process.
The Middle East Eye published an article about Ola’s hunger strike the she announced on Monday June 26. “She said, I’m done with this, and I can’t take this anymore, so I’m going on a hunger strike from today to demand my freedom,” explained Aayah Khalaf to the Middle East Eye.
Aayah, Ola and Hosam’s eldest daughter, spent this week in Washington DC meeting with members of the US Congress and Senate. Aayah reported on twitter that she had a very positive meeting with Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen who is the chair of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Middle East. Aayah is hoping that the US administration will help bring about a solution and reunite Ola and Hosam with Aayah and her children who are American nationals and reside in Seattle.
The family calls upon the Egyptian government to unconditionally and immediately release Ola and Hosam.
