Family members of Ola and Hosam visited Geneva during the 36th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council. Family members met with UN officials and human rights officers as part of a formal complaint submission to the UN.
During the trip family members spoke at side events on Egypt’s human rights violations to build awareness. In attendance where human rights organization, UN staff, and officials from various permanent missions to the United Nations.

“We want nothing more than to reunite Ola and Hosam with our family, and we have started a campaign to call for their freedom. I have come along with my uncle to Geneva on behalf of Ola and Hosam to meet with the Special Procedure groups of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights,” explained Dhoha, Ola’s niece.
“It has been 82 days and nights that they have spent in filthy cramped cells the size of a broom closet, approximately 1.6m by 1.8m with no windows and absolutely no access to sunlight.They sleep on a concrete floor, no mattress, no clean food or water, no access to a toilet.”
Reuters’ Office in Geneva reported that UN officials confirmed receipt of the urgent appeal from Washington-based lawyer Jared Genser who represents the family.
