Hosam Renewed for the 5th Time After 73 Days
Yesterday Hosam was transported to the State Security Prosecution Office for his 5th renewal. He was renewed for another 15 days without any due process. The family lawyer has reported that he continues to be detained incommunicado solitary confinement.
Hosam suffers from pain in his eyes since his detention. Prison authorities rejected his request to undergo medical checks at his own expense in an external hospital. Hosam is detained 24 hours a day and is denied exposure to sunlight, adequate food and water.
Our family is very concerned about Hosam’s safety in Tora prison after the recent Human Rights Watch report exposed the epidemic torture mounting to crimes against humanity in Egypt’s prisons on September 6, 2017.
“I am very concerned about my father’s health. We call on Egyptian authorities to release him immediately and allow him to access proper medical care,” says Aayah Khalaf, Ola’s eldest daughter who resides in the United States.
